HG RMS-108 MARASAI REVIEW

INTRODUCTION

This design really cought my eye. The kit is a faithful reproduction of it. It incorperates the latest HGUC technology with a few new features, such as the high detail hands. It has a few flaws, whiich are covered in the review, but overall, its a fine kit thats well worth your time and money.

HEAD UNIT

HEAD

The head is a pretty standard HGUC affair, only with a few more parts to it than the standard.. The power cables (like all the others on the kit) are made of the same stiff rubbery material (much stiffer than polycap material) as those on the HGUC Zakus, which isn't really a problem, considering that none of them are supposed to actually flex after assembly. The only problem on the head is that the large antenna is made of a very soft rubber. This will prevent it from breaking, but it will also be a pain to paint.

BODY UNIT

TORSO/BACKPACK

Again, basically the standard HGUC affair. The Marasai also borrowed the HGUC Zakus' shoulder joint mechanics, which allows a great deal of mobility in the arms. It can even hold the beam rifle's side grip. The backpack is pretty standard, but nicely detailed. Most of the seamlines are hidden by the panel lines, which is very nice indeed.

ARM UNIT

ARMS

Nothing really special in the arms themselves. My only complaint here is that, while the shield is connected via a polycap, its folding sections do not incorporate polycaps at all. The shield still folds up just at in the anime, but polycap joints would have been nice.

LEG UNIT

LEGS

The legs have a very good degree of movement. The hip joints fit snug, so there's no problem there. Thanks to the double knee joints, it can almost kneel down without any mods. The ankle is another story though. The armor and boosters restrict foot movement to the minimum, much like the HGUC Zakus.

WEAPONS/BOOSTER/EXTRAS & FINAL VERDICT

WEAPONS

Not a lot to mention here, the sabers have the MG-like removable transparent blades, which is a nice change from the one-piece sabers included with the latest HGUC GMs. The beam rifle is pleasing. Aside from the standard assembly, the e-pac is removable (though no extras are included with the kit). The rifle also has a rather simple feature that should have been included with all HGUC and MG weapons, the hand grip had a small peg that plugs into the palm of the 'trigger' hand. The peg is subtle, but is eliminates the loose weapon grip that has plagued Gundam kits for the very beginning. Unfortunately, the sabers do not have this little feature, but the hand is shaped just right to hold them securely. I would have liked to have seen the atmospheric re-entry gear included with the kit as well, it would have helped to spruce up the rather meager weapons package, but that's just an after-thought.

I wonder if there has been any update in the progress of this kit.

These pictures help a lot in telling me how much work is needed to paint this kit.
