INTRODUCTION

During the one year war the Earth Federation desperately needed a fully mass production mobile suit to push the Principality of Zeon back out of earth. The RX-78-2 Gundam proved itself in combat, kept Zeon occupied, and gave the federation great battle data to finally produce the RGM-79 GM.

I purchased the GM along with a few other kits back in February to help my crave of..model building. I got it with the DVD (just some commercials, model building, promotions, etc).

HEAD UNIT

The head is the standard HGUC head. two halves, a polycap, and the visor. Some details appear on the visor.

Not much paint is required, only the back part of the mohawk and panel lines require paint. If you don't want the 'puke green' color (more on that later) that will require more work.

The design is very close to the line art and looks really well on the body. However the motion isn't that great, up and down motion is almost nonexistent but there is some good side to side motion for a confused look..

BODY UNIT

The body is excellent in most areas. It follows the line art, doesn't need much paint, and has decent mobility.

-The waist is what hurts the score here. The front peace can move up for leg motion, but it is also very limiting. The GM can't do a normal kneeling pose, instead kneeling is limited to the GM's body looking up.

-The main body had an extra piece on a peg that when you pull the body off the peg covers the peg to add some side to side mobility to the torso.

-The back pack is were the paint is required, and is nothing major. The beam saber holder holds the beam saber well.

ARM UNIT

What can I say? Nothing much, its just a GM, nothing special. However I must.

The GM has very simple arms that is completely reused in the HGUC Gundam.
-The shoulder doesn't pop out like on the Zaku, the elbow motion is standard, its just dull compared to the newer Powered GM, and the GM Striker.
-The good part is the hands, there are four hands that are included: trigger right, fist right, fist left, and open left. They help add a lot of polish to the look of poses.

LEG UNIT

Even though the arms were standard fair, the legs make up for it.

They have good and smooth mobility, some nice mechanical detail (requires paint), and follows the original design. The problem with the legs doesn't come from the legs but from the waist.

WEAPONS/BOOSTER/EXTRAS & FINAL VERDICT

The GM has only two weapons; the standard Beam Spray Gun, and a Beam Saber.

-The BSG is very simple looks nice, and fits well in the hand.
-The beam saber, while no transparent blade, isn't part of a hand.
-The shield is your standard Gundam shield that can connect to the back of the GM, the lower arms, or in the hand.

My final verdict is this;

For the money (10 bucks) the GM is a well designed, easy to make, easy to learn with little piece of cannon fodder.

-It is a great starter kit, follows the line art almost dead on (compared to the more mobility, and easier to pose with Master Grade), and doesn't require much paint unless you want white instead of 'puke green'.

-It is standard HGUC quality but has aged compared to the new flashier GM kits.

I highly recommend this kit to everybody even though it has its faults and age. The kit somehow makes up for itself.

This was a my first review and choosing scores for some things was hard but I enjoyed typing it all.

Thanks Vito for the detailed review and welcome to GundamHotel.
I think you usually see the GM as cannon fodder but there's a lot of respect for the realistic aspect of it. Even the designer coming up with the design for this model, must have gone through all the paces of, it should look simple and easy to mass produce, can be assembled with the bare minimum materials and at the same time be competent. It's always cool to see a design based upon some principle of reality
