INTRODUCTION
MG MSA-0011EXT EX-S GUNDAM, this has to be my biggest 1/100 gunpla at the moment.:D i haven't seen the series yet, but i really like it's design..^^ i got this when i finished my thesis about 5 months ago but i just recently built him cause i've been quite busy with my other gunpla kits, i bought it at $18 less, not much but i guess that's a pretty good discount..^^ it's got a total of 31 runners, 32page manual and 31 screws.:D i took pictures of it's parts all the way from the day i started, it took me 5 days, around 6 hours of build per day, from the start (after the action base), which is the core fighter, i already noticed how complicated and how detailed this thing really is, there's just so many little pieces for every part.so, let's head on with the review..^^
|
HEAD UNIT
the head design was really nice, it's pretty detailed, one thing you'll notice right away is that the yellow parts of it looks really cheap and feels very fragile, it's molded in a rubber-ish plastic, so that's something that'll need painting, not really necessary but it'll look better if it's painted..^^ i haven't painted mine yet, maybe when i get more time..^^;
|
BODY UNIT
the torso and waist is together, that means no waist articulation.^^; this is because of the large core fighter. the whole body has a lot of little pieces and gimmicks inside for the transformation, a very complicated build, but very nice cause it feels very solid and steady, and i feel that having no waist articulation for this model is just right cause once you add it's huge backpack and boosters it's weight will like triple already. a complain about this is that the wings on his rear end has a red trim, which bandai included a HUGE red foil sticker, i didn't apply it, it still looks nice without it, and i plan to paint it when i get more time..^^
|
ARM UNIT
the arms, hmm, it's pretty nice, not that detailed, straight forward build, it's just that i think it's pretty small for this MS's size, but i guess that's really how it's supposed to be..^^ the shoulders are something i really love, it's huge, it looks really nice and it's very detailed, it has 4 layers, frame-armor-frame-armor (see pictures), just bit of panel lining, apply the decals and it'll look great..^^ the tanks, i think, is really nice too, not that complicated to build just requires panel lining to look nice.^^ a complain about it though is that it's pretty hard to pose with the beam smart gun, and the wings on his shoulder is like the wings on his rear end which comes with foil stickers, but overall, it's great..^^
|
LEG UNIT
the legs, wow, this was a very long build, a lot of pieces and a few screws, i even hurt myself while placing the screw on his ankle, it was very very hard to screw-in all the way. i like how detailed it is (see pictures), it's yellow parts are molded differently from the cheap yellow parts of the head so no painting is needed. once you finish the legs, you'll see how big he really is,.^^ though it's leg height is the same as Unicorn's when it's in destroy mode, ex-s is still taller and wider of course..^^

WEAPONS/BOOSTER/EXTRAS & FINAL VERDICT
and finally, for weapons, he has two beam sabers with blue beams, which i thought was really nice cause it's not red/pink.XD, and the beam smart gun, which was really nice and detailed but hard to pose on him and required painting, it's molded all black so i painted the parts that were supposed to be white..^^ and the part that connects the gun to the MS is really fragile, it has a very small lock which i broke..^^; it doesn't matter though, it still fits well, just a little loose when trying to pose him.
the boosters, i wasn't too impressed with it, it has a lot of parts but still needs a decent amount of painting to make it look good, unpainted it'll look pretty boring, like on mine now.^^;
for extras, it has an extra core fighter which can be displayed with him on the action base.^^ and yeah, the action base is really really nice, i love how it's not all black, it's black but it's transparent, so, i think that's a really nice touch *thumbs up to bandai*..^^
*i didn't transform him, and i have no plan on transforming him, i don't really care about the transformation and i don't want to risk it, i might break some parts while transforming him to the g-cruiser and back, and even just in his MS form, it's already good enough.^^
for the verdict, i would say this is one impressive kit and i definitely recommend it..^^ if you get the chance, buy this kit! it's looks very very nice even if you have no plan on painting it..^^ you'll definitely enjoy the build..:D
